Aya Thekla Beach Cyprus

2 minutes to read

The beautiful Ayia Thekla Beach, we find it in the north on the east side of the Cyprus Island about six kilometers from the lively town of Aya Napa, famous for its beaches and nightlife.

Behind it the small village that has had a strong expansion since the nineties, becoming more and more a popular destination for a holiday of relaxation and beautiful sea every year. Numerous villas can be seen along the coast holiday homes for the lucky ones.

Agya Thekla beach is part of the protected area of the Nature 2000 network and thanks to its excellent characteristics it is always awarded the much desired Blue Flag and considered one of the top ten of the 108 beaches in Cyprus, which is already saying something.

In the shape of a horseshoe, it extends for about three hundred meters and offers a coastline of soft golden sand, with clean and crystalline waters and a sea that goes from light blue to turquoise. The seabed descends gently therefore perfect for families where children can have fun in total safety. Small rocky islands a short distance away complete this natural picture still intact despite modernity. Quite crowded during the summer season, Agya Thekla beach is very popular with all types of tourists, for its position that almost always guarantees calm waters and for all the comforts it has. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, lifeguards who watch over bathers to ensure safe bathing, toilets, changing rooms and special equipment for the disabled so that they can also enjoy the wonderful waters in total autonomy using wheelchairs that accompany them to the sea.

For something to drink or eat, on the beach of Agya Thekla there are bars, one of which is particular where every Wednesday morning there is a curious market, a small minimarket, a fast food restaurant and a series of restaurants to try, in short, not nothing is missing. Sports enthusiasts, on the other hand, can enjoy kitesurfing, paragliding or simply jogging along the beautiful coastal path. Even snorkelers will have fun along the coast of Agya Thekla beach so remember to bring flippers, a mask and why not maybe even an underwater camera.

A comfortable walkway for a walk leads to the picturesque fishing port of the Liopetri river where the rocky coast is interspersed with small sandy coves perfect for those who want complete relaxation and privacy. The route also reaches Vathia Gonia beach but that's another story.

It takes its name from the holy Thekla to whom the new church is dedicated in an immaculate white color with the blue domed roof, a classic of the Greek islands that gives that inimitable identifying trait.

How to get to Agya Thekla Beach

Direction north of Cyprus, follow the signs for Agya Napa and that's it, nothing more simple. If you are not self-sufficient (which we always recommend, the islands are beautiful to explore) there are daily public bus trips from the main tourist resorts that will take you here. As always, consult the timetables carefully to be able to organize yourself better.

On the beach of Agyia Thekla, there is also a large parking lot where you can safely leave your vehicle.

Ultimately, here is another stop to be included among the things to see in Cyprus, for a day at sea full of fun, of amazing nature and why not even pure idleness who can stop it?
