Svoronata Village Kefalonia

2 minutes to read

The characteristic village of Svoronata, we find it about nine kilometers south of Argostoli the capital on the west side and about seven from the village of Lassi.

In the mainly flat region of Livatho it is a village that despite the increase in tourism in the last few years, still maintains a typically Ionian flavor with its pastel-colored houses, narrow streets, flower gardens that give a natural intoxicating scent.

With about eight hundred permanent inhabitants, it is one of the few places not completely devastated by the terrible earthquake of 1953 and owes its name to the heroic Colonel Dimitrios Svoronos from Fiscarko who participated with great prestige in the Balkan wars of 1912.

A very quiet town if you are looking for a dynamic life, here we are sorry but you will not find it, in Svoronata relaxation and tranquility reign in fact it is much loved by families with children and by those who just want to focus on the beauty of the island and not on the opportunities of fun.

There are many options for staying, from small hotels to budget resorts, private villas, apartments or guest houses. However, nothing is missing in Svoronata such as typical taverns where you can taste delicious Greek and local cuisine, mini markets, cafes and shops. If you want a crazy night, just move to Argostoli where you will be spoiled for choice.

Svoronata was very famous for its blacksmiths who managed to create real works of art as you can see in the old houses with wrought iron gates. A place to visit is the rock of Lord Bayron in Lakithira about three kilometers from the village, a favorite place for the poet where the fantastic view of the Ionian Sea and Zakynthos gave him inspiration. Still in the nearby Ntomata village, instead, there is a pretty and small chapel with a majestic entrance and a gold-enameled temple where the patriarch Gregory V is buried. A balance must also be paid to the church of San Nicola patron saint of the village and of the sailors with its imposing bell tower and beautiful frescoes on the walls.

From Svoronata a fantastic view of the sea and the small Zeus island where the Virgin Mary of Diotissa dominates the summit, to whom a beautiful festival is dedicated on the 2nd of July.

The Beaches of Svoronata

The closest beaches to Svoronata are Ammes beach with a narrow coastline of soft orange sand with thick vegetation behind it and surrounded by rocks and rocks all bathed by a clean, crystalline and turquoise sea. The backdrop drops gently and is perfect for children. Snorkelers will have fun admiring the marine fauna. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, a snack bar where you can eat or drink something.

Then we find the Ai Helis beach, always very quiet and never super crowded. Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, it is wedged in a large bay and has a wide and long beach of soft golden sand with an almost always calm and clear sea. Here too the sandy bottom slopes slowly. It has sun beds, umbrellas and a snack bar.

We continue with Avithos beach. Beautiful and wild, embraced by rolling hills and lush vegetation, by the coast of soft sand and by the blue and transparent sea. A beach where there is no stress but only relaxation and where just behind a couple of typical taverns to eat something while admiring the sea. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas but not being particularly large, the availability is a bit limited, so as always our advice is to arrive early to find a place.

And again the long and sandy Minies beach with a turquoise and crystalline sea with shallow waters perfect for lovers of long swims. It is surrounded by luxuriant vegetation while on the sides it has limestone cliffs. It is partly equipped with sun beds, umbrellas and a kiosk for drinks and food, while another part is completely free.

How to get to Svoronata

If you are staying in the area just follow the directions, but if you have decided on a different part of the island for your holidays in Greece, keep Argostoli as a reference point and head south of the city. For those who do not have their own vehicle, from the capital, a bus service connects it with trips every day at different times.Always consult the timetables because they can vary according to the seasons.

A very nice place to visit or why not also to stay and definitely to be included in the things to see in Kefalonia.
