Pessada Beach Kefalonia

The enchanting Pessada Beach, we find it in the southern part of the Kefalonia Island on the west coast near the homonymous village in the region of Livathos which includes almost the entire southern part of the island where, among other things, ferries depart to visit the beautiful Zakynthos Island arriving at the port of Agios Nikolaos or Volimes. The capital Argostoli is about twelve kilometers away.

In reality, the beach of Pessada consists of two coasts, separated from each other by large rocks, one is called by the locals Ammos which in Greek means sand the other Vrisi which literally means tap.

Let's start with the first, a narrow strip of soft light sand bathed by extremely clear and crystalline waters of green and blue color with suggestive rocks that as if by magic come out of the sea making the landscape almost like a paradise.

Diving lovers will be able to enjoy fun acrobatics from the rocks that surround and divide the two coves, while those who like to snorkel will surely find a fun and interesting underwater world (don't forget fins and mask!).

It is not equipped, everything is still in its natural state and despite the proximity of the port the environment is still intact. If you decide to spend the day here, remember to bring everything you need from something to drink, to eat and a good sunscreen to shelter yourself when the cliffs behind covered with agaves do not offer natural shade. It can be reached through a stone path surrounded by greenery with one hundred and twenty steps to then pass a small stack and in this regard, we recommend that you wear a rock shoe.

This part of the Pessada beach is very popular with families with children because the seabed, as well as being sandy, goes down slowly so that the little ones can play in total safety. Before embarking on the path you can leave your vehicle in a free parking lot and if you are hungry and want a full lunch, you will find a small tavern that offers dishes based on fresh products and local recipes with excellent value for money.

Let's now discover the second inlet called Vrisi which is located exactly on the right of the promontory. A small corner of paradise reachable through another path in this case shorter but steep and quite slippery (here it would be better to have sneakers).

Small in size, it has a golden sandy beach, bathed by clean waters with a sea whose colors go from emerald to turquoise to blue and also in this case the seabed slopes gently. Behind a large rock that shelters from the sun. Before getting there you will find a fresh water tap (and from here you can understand the reason for the name).

Two enchanting beaches, perfect for a day of relaxation and tranquility in a natural setting that will leave you speechless. It goes without saying that being so beautiful they are also very popular with visitors during the summer, so if you want to enjoy them in total peace, it is better to reach them either early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Returning from the beaches if you have time and desire you can go and visit the Estravromenos Church with its imposing tower with a blue tip which is located in the Pessada village, an ancient monastery built on the ruins of a previous place of worship of 1618 dedicated to 'Exaltation of the Holy Cross, where the sacred and miraculous icon of Panagia Diotissa is found, an exceptional work of art and precious relic of the Monastery of Panagia of Crete the island of Zeus.

Near the main church (in Greek Katholikon) you will find the church of Agios Giovanni of Chrysostom with an octagonal altar and where the monk Kyriakos Petaloudis who lived in the 19th century and an important figure of the Church of Kefalonia is buried in the floor. From the monastery you can enjoy a wonderful view over the whole southern part of the island.

Wherever you are staying, the direction is southwest following the signs until you reach the Pessada village. Once in the village, head towards the port and turn right before the pier where you will find a small parking lot and from there the path that descends towards the beach.

A hidden jewel to be discovered and marked among the things to do in Kefalonia absolutely, it would be a real sacrilege to miss such a beauty.
