Lepeda Beach Kefalonia

2 minutes to read

Lepeda Beach, we find it in the beautiful Paliki Peninsula in the northwestern part of the Kefalonia Island about two kilometers south of Lixouri Village.

A coastline different from the usual beaches of the Greek Islands, made of soft orange-red sand, washed by a turquoise blue sea with extremely clean, crystalline and always calm waters. A paradise, with a seabed that descends slowly and with rock formations that come out of the sea as if by magic, creating small natural pools.

Very similar to its sisters Xi beach rather than Megas Lakkos beach for the color of the sand, Lepeda beach extends for more than a hundred meters in length and for ten meters in some places in width and a place where the nature has truly given the best of itself.

It is generally quiet except in summer when all visitors want to enjoy Lepeda beach for at least a few hours. The first thing you will notice when you get there, will be the big rock and the small lake if we want to call it that is formed from the sea entering from one side of the beach.

It is organized for the most part with sunbeds, umbrellas, a bar for a cool drink or something quick to eat and a tavern that offers excellent fresh fish and seafood dishes all to be enjoyed with a sea view, what to ask for more? If you want more choice, just go back from the road towards Lixuori where you will only be embarrassed in which tavern to stop. A part of the beach, on the other hand, is free and here you can spread out your towel where you will feel most at ease. No water sports, just a simple volleyball net for the more sporty and who don't like to stay like lizards in the sun. Perfect instead for snorkelers who can have fun exploring the underwater world made up of varied and lively flora and fish fauna, so don't forget a mask, fins and an underwater camera to immortalize the marine inhabitants.

Lepeda beach offers a different landscape every hour, the light changes constantly as well as the atmosphere. Dawn is a moment of pure ecstasy because there is hardly anyone and then for the colors of the sky and the sea, a moment of authentic romanticism. Not least the sunset, when brighter colors ranging from orange to purple to red, set the Paliki Peninsula on fire and the moon rises from behind the imposing rocks, making everything magical. And finally the top moment, when there is a full moon impossible to explain in words, you have to live it with your own eyes!

The view over the Argostoli Bay, Mount Ainos and the Agioi Theodori lighthouse from here have an amplified effect and you will hardly forget it. Around Lepeda beach the environment is made up of local limestone with a luxuriant undergrowth. A colorful mill can become the subject of one of your best souvenir photos during your holiday in Kefalonia.

At the end of Lepeda, you can visit an ancient monastery and the cave of Santa Praskera, from whose walls water flows according to the local healing properties.

How to get to Lepeda Beach

Simple, direction Lixuori northwest part of the Kefalonia Island, head south from the country then taking a steep road that descends towards the sea and you will arrive. A tip: go to the small shop that sells drinks instead of parking on the sloping road, turn left and you will find a more convenient parking.

A magnificent place at all times and deserving to be included among the things to see in Kefalonia.
