Lagadakia Beach Kefalonia

2 minutes to read

Lagadakia beach, we find it in the beautiful Paliki Peninsula in the northwestern part of the Kefalonia Island and if we really want to be picky in the southern area of the particular peninsula.

Between of Havriata and Chavdata villages, Mother Nature wanted to give us this little corner of paradise, a tiny bay surrounded by a splendid landscape made of rock formations that protect it from the winds and a real playground for snorkelers and diving where they can admire the wonderful underwater world of Kefalonia, made up of hidden caves and tunnels where nice species of fish hide among a remarkable fish flora.

A small beach made of pebbles of all sizes, from larger towards the earth and then becoming smaller towards the shore and into the white sea, crystal clear and transparent waters from turquoise to bright emerald with a bottom that descends world quickly and for this reason much appreciated by sportsmen who are always looking for new forms of underwater life.

Lagadakia beach is a continuous surprise for the visitor, first of all it must be said that it is the beach where the coldest water of the whole island is found and some say of the whole Ionian Sea, and the reason it is for the numerous underwater springs that flow naturally and that never heat up even in the months when the sun is hottest. These springs also cross under the seabed, making the sea water always beautifully fresh. Believe it especially in August when it even reaches 40 degrees, they are a real godsend!

For real discoveries, instead, on the back of the hill on the right side, a path begins that for the first part uphill and then descends downwards, takes you to another spectacular bay with a tiny beach enclosed in small natural caves with a sea almost like a postcard where you can also remain in absolute solitude and enjoy the landscape in silence.

For the more romantic ones since you are in the area, it would be a shame to miss the sunset at the Monastery of Kipouria or for those who love to walk to reach the Gero Gobos lighthouse about a couple of kilometers from Lagadakia beach, considered the most ' ancient of the Ionian Islands, lost in the void that like a sentinel watches over the whole surrounding territory.

Needless to say, it is not equipped at all, no sunbeds and umbrellas and no shade so if you decide to spend the whole day there, remember to bring everything you need for both drinking and eating. If you are an early riser, we advise you to visit it before eleven o'clock, it will certainly be almost entirely at your disposal and above all you can grab the natural shaded areas of the rocky outcrops. Lagadakia beach is usually not very crowded, until recently it was almost unknown and frequented only by local people, but the word has now spread and it too is starting to be one of the beaches to see in Kefalonia.

How to get to Lagadakia Beach

First of all you need to get to the Paliki Peninsula and here you see how to do it depends a lot on where you decide to stay. Second you have to take a southwest direction and head towards the village of Chavdata. From here go down towards the coast for about five kilometers and you will have arrived.

A different day on a small and remote beach where you can stay in close contact with nature and nothing more.
