Psakoudia is actually the port of the town of Ormylia which is located just above the coast and has a very ancient and important origin. It offers many accommodation opportunities ranging from simple apartments to small and large hotels as well as all the amenities such as typical taverns where you can enjoy excellent fresh fish, restaurants, cafes and shops for shopping.

Archaeological excavations show that it was already inhabited from 4000 to 2000 BC and its original name was Sermyli. It was a large and important city in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries and gave great military aid to the Persians during the wars of 480 BC by supplying ships and men to the cruel King Xerxes. It began minting its own coins after 400 BC and was one of the first autonomous cities of the Chalkidiki Peninsula. In 348 BC it was completely destroyed by Philip II of Macedon, father of the Alexander the Great, forcing the surviving inhabitants to leave the area. In the northwestern part above two promontories is the ancient site of Olinto dating back to the 7th century BC. According to Greek mythology, Olinto was the son of the Thracian king Strymonas and lost his life during a lion hunt, so that his brother Vraggas decided to build the city in honor of him. Other legends instead attribute Olinto as one of the sons of the legendary Hercules. In 432 BC following the attack by Athens, it became the capital of the Chalkidiki Peninsula at the behest of King Perdiccas II of Macedonia and one of the major military powers in all of Greece. In 382 BC due to its strong expansion it entered the war with Sparta and for three years there were continuous battles. In order to admire the finds of the long history of Olinto, a well-stocked Archaeological Museum.
