Paliouri Beach Halkidiki Peninsula

2 minutes to read

Poliouri Beach with its almost exotic flavor, we find it in the south-east part in the first phalanx of the beautiful and incredible Halkidiki Peninsula, precisely in the district of Kassandra. About six kilometers from the lively Pefkochori village.

It is called with several names so much so that visitors often feel disoriented when looking for it but in the end all the indications lead to the same and enchanting place. You can find it as Kanavista, Chrousso (from the small and ancient neighboring town) and still as Xenia beach but the name does not matter, the important thing is what will appear before your eyes.

A small hidden bay with a coastline of soft, fine and very white sand, bathed by extremely transparent, crystalline and always calm waters with a sea of crazy colors that go from blue to intense turquoise to sparkling blue with shallow waters up to twenty meters from the riva, a real naturalistic paradise and a favorite destination for families with children who can play until they drop in total safety. All around a rich vegetation made of pine trees that give natural shade in the hottest hours for those who do not want to take advantage of the beaches and prefer an independent day and do it yourself.

The whole beach is very organized, there are many beach clubs to choose from and where to place your towel and enjoy hours in complete idleness. You will find sunbeds, umbrellas, bars for a cool drink or a colorful cocktail, quick dishes or snacks to quench the hunger that usually the sea air brings, while for the more sporty a rich choice of activities ranging from classic water sports to to beach volleyball.

Even for party lovers, the Paliouri beach is super renowned, here you can find three of the most famous bars of the Kassandra Peninsula that organize evenings with international DJs to dance until dawn.

The most beautiful part if you can say that, since in our opinion it is all beautiful, it is on the right where the sand is even finer in talcum style and where there is a small tourist port where you can find boats that leave for excursions in the area.

Obviously there is no shortage of convenient parking where you can leave your vehicle and many accommodation facilities ranging from classic hotels or resorts rather than apartments in case you decide for your holiday in the Chalkidiki Peninsula to stay stable right here '.In addition to natural beauty, the area also has great historical significance.

It is believed that in Paliouri there was the ancient city of Theramvos also mentioned by the historian Herodotus who was forced to help the tyrant Xerxes during the second Persian war of 480 BC. There are many findings in this regard so as to confirm its existence.

Behind the beach of Paliouri the typical village with a pretty square and traditional-style houses, labyrinthine alleys where you can get lost and go shopping in search of souvenirs for your mother or your best friend, or to stop for a coffee, and again to eat in one of the typical taverns that offer local cuisine and traditional Greek - Macedonian dishes. The whole area is a miracle of Mother Nature with fresh pine forests, large natural formations and beautiful lagoons.

To the south east you can visit the small settlement of Xyna and after a couple of kilometers, the village of Agios Nikolaos with two picturesque bays, a beautiful natural harbor and a small peninsula where there is a lovely church dedicated to the saint. According to history, the chapel was built with the stones of an ancient temple dedicated to the God Apollo as evidenced by the reliefs on the walls.

Paliouri is very famous for the production of honey and olive oil, do not miss the opportunity to taste it and why not take some home as a "sweet" souvenir.

The pine forest that surrounds Paliouri is a real gem for lovers of hiking and trekking. There are many paths that reach many beaches such as Alonaki beach or Xyna beach from which through a dirt road you can reach the Kanistros lighthouse, built in 1864 and 15 meters high.

Curiosity

The name Paliouri comes from the word Paliouria, a particular type of thorny bush that was used in the past by the inhabitants to close and protect the houses.

How to get to Paliouri Beach

Easy, first of all you have to reach the Kassandra Peninsula and then head south east to the end following the road signs passing either through the coast or inside the choice is yours!

A stop to be included among the things to see in the Halkidiki Peninsula, too bad to miss such a wonder would be a great shame.
