Nea Potidea Beach Halkidiki Peninsula

2 minutes to read

The Nea Potidea Beach is one of the first you come across when you decide for a holiday in the Halkidiki Peninsula. It is located north on the east side just about seventy kilometers from the cosmopolitan city of Thessaloniki right in front of the second Sithonia phalanx.

If compared to the beaches that can be found throughout the Chalkidiki Peninsula and in particular the area of Kassandra, the first phalanx that hosts Nea Potidea, we can honestly tell you that it is not among the most beautiful even if it still offers a clean sea.

A long strip mainly of soft sand with some areas that also have small pebbles but are really a minority compared to the beach with crystalline and clear waters, a blue and turquoise sea with a gently sloping seabed therefore perfect for families with children and for those who love to take long swims.

It is very organized, you will find many beaches with sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars and a wide choice of water sports to have fun and have new experiences. For the more demanding, instead, behind the coast, the new part of the town of Nea Potidea, full of shops, typical taverns offering excellent fresh fish and seafood dishes, restaurants, game rooms, an amusement park for the most ' small and many accommodations ranging from simple apartments to hotels to luxury resorts.

Two lines regarding the area and the town. Nea Potidea. It is known as "The Gates of Cassandra" as it is at the very beginning of the first phalanx of the Chalkidiki Peninsula exactly where the channel that joins the Gulf of Toroneos to the Gulf of Thermaikos is located above the highway that connects the mainland to the peninsula. A small port where fishermen usually moor and where you can find super fresh fish to buy. The village of Nea Potidea has an old part which is the most populated by locals and most characteristic with its Macedonian-style houses and its square where there are some very good bakeries. The new part, on the other hand, is under the motorway with its long sandy beach often awarded the Blue Flag for excellent services. Both areas can be reached on foot via the promenade.

In ancient times Nea Potidea was a very important place thanks to the fact that it was very close to the mainland and served as a link with the Macedonian continental world. You can still admire the walls of Justinian on the inner side of the road that separates the city from the canal and that ends towards the port to the west where even today the waves break on the westernmost tower. If you're in the mood to explore, head about a kilometer southeast to the 1872 Archangels Chapel built with materials from Ancient Potidea.

How to get to Nea Potidea Beach

Everything is very convenient, if you have your own vehicle, wherever you decide to stay the direction is north-west up to the elevated highway that connects Macedonia to Kassandra up to the town of Nea Potidea where you will be spoiled for choice in which lido stop you.

For those who are not independent, there is a well-stocked local bus service that takes you everywhere the only care you need to have is to consult the timetables to get the best out of them.

A beach where you can spend even just a day that will certainly be very pleasant or even the whole stay as it is an excellent base for visiting the entire Cassandra peninsula and that of Sintonia, therefore deserving to be included among the things to see in the Chalkidiki Peninsula.
