Livrochio Beach Chalkidiki Peninsula

2 minutes to read

Livrochio beach also called Livrohio or also known as Trani Ammouda beach, we find it in the north-east part of the second finger of the Chalkidiki Peninsula, Sithonia considered the most beautiful part of the whole region.

Let's say that we can almost consider it as the city beach of the Ormos Panagias village which is located less than a kilometer and a half. A two kilometer long coastline, the most extensive and according to many also the most beautiful of Sithonia and of the whole Chalkidiki Peninsula with soft white sand, clean and clear waters, a turquoise blue sea that seems almost fake, sandy bottoms which descend gently, perfect for families with children and lovers of regenerating swims.

Given its size, even in the summer when Greece is full of visitors it will be difficult to find one on top of the other, here there is no lack of space and you can have a day at the beach in total tranquility. Some areas of Livrochio beach are perfectly equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, beach clubs, bars, taverns and restaurants where you will find the amenities for a fee (two deck chairs and a parasol range from € 5 to € 10 per day, always ask in advance before sit there), or where they are free but you need to have at least one drink.

On the other hand, sections of the coast are completely free, here you can decide where to put your towel and let yourself be lulled by the breeze and the sea.

Livrohio beach has no shaded areas, no tamarisk trees or maritime pines so to give some respite to the sun's warm rays if you decide for a free stop remember to bring something to shelter you in the hottest hours.

For an interlude to a day at sea, on the northern end of the beach there is a small promontory with the remains of an ancient Byzantine tower and according to archaeologists the ancient city of Sigos was located there.

The Trani Ammouda beach which in Greek means "large sandy beach" and by the locals is called Copacabana for its extension and the landscape with an exotic flavor, is right in front of the third finger of the Chalkidiki Peninsula, the mystical Mount Athos clearly visible in the days particularly clear with its ancient Byzantine monasteries but alas not open to visitors if you are of the female sex (do not take it as a discrimination, we too are not very happy with this prohibition, but these are very deep-rooted traditions and it is right to respect them and perhaps even leave them like this 'as they are).

If you are a family with small children and you want shallow waters where your children can play in total safety, we recommend that you search them, perhaps not all of the beach, but go in search of them where they are less deep because the seabed is not all the same, certainly without taking a walks for two kilometers, the ideal part is towards the center where the sea goes down very gently.

A few words about the nearby Ormos Panagias village. It is a picturesque village with a small port where you can see many fishing boats and already here you can guess that in the taverns only fish of the day and therefore you must absolutely take advantage of it for a good meal of seafood. In this area, tzipouro is also distilled, a traditional Greek white spirit that is usually consumed either as an aperitif or when eating fish, honey and the inevitable olive oil.

The town is divided into two parts, one extends along the beautiful beach, the other is the port area more towards the hills where you will find restaurants, cafes and shops where you can find the perfect souvenir in memory of your holiday in the Halkidiki Peninsula.

From Ormos Panagias which takes its name from the ancient Byzantine church dedicated to the Holy Mother of God (Panagia in Greek means Madonna), the ships leave for a nice excursion to Mount Athos (usually we set sail at 9.00 am), and also towards the the only inhabited island in all of Chalkidiki, the Amouliana Island. It is also an excellent base for discovering the Agios Nikolaos village near Orios about four kilometers island from the beach of Trani Ammouda, a town with well-preserved 19th century architecture with labyrinthine cobbled streets. and of course typical taverns where you can taste the local delicacies. A tip go there in the early evening for an aperitif perhaps at a table with local people who will tell you fantastic stories and give you valuable information about the area.

How to get Livrochio Beach or Trani Ammounda Beach

From the main road of Sithonia heading north, climbing over a small hill and then turn right and left again until you reach the Ormos Panagias village, cross it and from here the whole beach begins.

A visit to the Trani Ammounda beach is a must, it must be put among the things to see in the Chalkidiki Peninsula, it will be a very pleasant trip out of town where all the contours from nature to fun will be nothing short of perfect!
