2 minutes to read

The Chalkidiki Peninsula will never cease to surprise you with its natural beauty, it is a riot of colors and scents that intoxicate the sense of smell and sight. Today we want to tell you about Kriopigi Beach, another small pearl of this still unknown part of Greece. The Kassandra Peninsula is located in the first phalanx at about half of the prominence on the east side.

It is the city beach of the village of the same name that has become over the years a highly sought-after destination for a holiday in the Chalkidiki Peninsula also given its proximity to another well-known seaside resort with a lively flavor and much loved by the people of the night Kallithea where it will be almost impossible getting bored.

Let's spend a few lines about the town of Kriopigi. The oldest part is located on a hill in a slightly elevated position in the seaside center full of shops, taverns, and accommodation facilities ranging from cheap apartments to fully equipped resorts. The area has been inhabited since ancient times between the two historic cities of Neapolis also mentioned by Herodotus where the tyrant Xerxes in 480 BC recruited men and ships for the war against Greece, and the city of Phlegra which according to mythology was involved in the epic war between Gods and Giants.

Speaking of its waters, it is believed that they are rich in trace elements and that they have miraculous effects for health so at least once a day to soak!

But now we come to the protagonist the Kriopigi beach. A narrow and long coast of white sand, bathed by clear and very clean waters so as to award it every year with the Blue Flag, a sea of iridescent colors that go from blue to turquoise to sparkling blue, with a sloping seabed sometimes characterized by small colored gravel pebbles therefore perfect for families with children, and last but not least, the presence of gentle slopes covered with majestic emerald green pines that extend almost to the sea as if to caress it. Here's what awaits you at Kriopigi beach, a natural environment of extraordinary beauty.

Most of the beach is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, kiosks where you can get something to drink or quick to eat if you do not want to sit comfortably with your legs under the table in some delicious tavern where you can be carried away by the flavors of the classic Greek and local cuisine.

For naturists, a small campsite for a holiday dedicated to freedom and in close contact with nature.

Curiosity

Until the mid-twentieth century its name was Pasarakia which in Turkish means small bazaar for a very sad reason as it is said that during the Ottoman period it was here that women and children captured during the raids of the Turks were sold as slaves. In 1953 the Greek government asked the municipalities of the area to rename them with purely Greek names and Kriopigi was chosen as there are numerous sources of ice water in the area (krios in Greek means cold) that can also be felt in the sea.

How to get to Kriopigi Beach

So, first reach the Kassandra Peninsula and then head south on the eastern part following the signs for Kriopigi or Kallithea. For those who are not autonomous, there are public runs from the main seaside resorts but as always pay attention to the timetables.

A corner of paradise to be included in the list of things to see in the Chalkidiki Peninsula, for a day or the entire stay, based on tranquility, and lazy days under the sun.
