Agia Paraskevi Beach Chaklidiki Peninsula

2 minutes to read

The Agia Paraskevi Beach which literally in Greek means Holy Sunday, is found in the southwestern part of Kassandra, the first phalanx of the Chalkidiki Peninsula.

Also called Loutra Beach, it is a coastline with small pebbles, clean and clear waters, a blue and turquoise sea with a bottom that slowly descends, perfect especially for families with children.

Agia Paraskevi beach is well equipped, you will find sunbeds, umbrellas, a fully equipped restaurant service that offers typical taverns where you can enjoy excellent dishes of classic Greek cuisine, restaurants, mini markets, cafes where you can relax with a good coffee, bars for a cool drink and small shops where you can find a souvenir in memory of your holiday in the Chalkidiki Peninsula. It should be noted that thanks to the quality of its waters and services, Agia Paraskevi beach is awarded the Blue Flag every year.

But Agia Paraskevi, is known throughout Greece not so much for its beach but for its thermal springs. The thermal spring of volcanic origin was found by a winemaker looking for sulfur for his vines and this gift from Mother Nature has been exploited ever since. At the beginning a small spa was created and then transformed over the years into a modern SPA and wellness center with a large swimming pool and areas for saunas and whirlpools. Many people come from Greece and also from abroad to benefit from the beneficial properties of these waters, especially suitable for skin, bone, joint and muscle problems. From where the thermal springs are located there is a beautiful path that descends along the sea to a sea cave where warm sea water gushes out to indulge in a completely free pampering. The baths are operational from April to November.

Also very interesting is the old Agia Paraskev village surrounded by a lush pine forest with a couple of very beautiful paths to follow that lead to wonderful views. Let's start by saying that the name takes it from the homonymous church demolished three times by the Turks, the last one in 1821 but always rebuilt which inside preserves some beautiful paintings to admire. It is assumed that the origins of the village are very ancient even if there are no written traces. A postcard town, surrounded by a pine forest in an elevated position made of white houses, colorful flower beds, labyrinthine and narrow streets (almost all the villages on the coast have these characteristics and they are due to the fact that in the past the Aegean Sea was furrowed by pirates who were raiding everywhere so the inhabitants were forced to design villages with hard to remember alleys to confuse the buccaneers in order to survive). As in tradition, the main square cannot be missing, where the locals love to spend their time chatting, eating “mezedes” (small appetizers) and drinking ouzo or tsipouro.

The locals are very hospitable, it will not be difficult to find someone who, in case of need, will go out of their way to help you or even for a simple chat to give you all the tips on what to see or what to eat. And yes, because in the Agia Paraskevi village you must necessarily stop in a tavern to taste the specialties of the area made with fresh products and ancient recipes, here you can eat very well.

However, the major activities of Agia Paraskevi remain linked to agriculture such as the production of an excellent oil that we recommend you take home, and beekeeping.
