Afitos Beach Halkidiki Peninsula

2 minutes to read

And here we are in Afitos or Afytos and again Afythos (it is called and written in different ways but the meaning is the same) in the north-eastern part of the Chalkidiki Peninsula in the first Kassandra phalanx.

Afythos is perhaps one of the most characteristic villages of the whole area but we will talk about this in the article dedicated to him. Let's focus instead on the beaches that the Afythos area offers.

In reality we find three coasts and all just below the village which is perched on top of a hill. Let's start with the less frequented one, the one in the center. The reason why it is not so popular is due to the fact that it is purely rocky, with stone slabs also on the seabed. Not really suitable for families with children or those with delicate feet, let's say that it is not the best for us rejected!

On the right side we find a fairly long beach called Liosi (from the bar which is right on the beach). A tongue of sand mixed with pebbles with a bottom that descends slowly but alas always with rocky plates on the seabed. However, there are sunbeds and umbrellas to stay comfortable and spaces for those who want to be completely independent and bring their own equipment.

On the left, however, we find only sand and it is called Varkes beach which, especially during the high season, is besieged by visitors. Its name, which in Greek means “boats”, takes it precisely because there are many small fishing boats moored. Its position protects it from the wind and here there is always an extremely calm sea. Its waters are transparent and clean, the sea with colors that seem almost painted and a sandy bottom that slowly descends perfect for the little ones who can have fun and play safely while the adults can enjoy the Hellenic sun perhaps with a colorful cocktail in hand.

Varkes beach is equipped with sun beds, umbrellas and a couple of bars where you can find something fresh to drink or quick to eat. If you prefer a hearty meal, just head towards the town just above and there you will really be spoiled for choice on where to go to satisfy your taste buds.

This whole area is considered excellent for a day at sea and also for a holiday in the Calcida Peninsula, either for the idyllic landscape, in fact the beaches overlook the Toroneos Gulf which on the opposite side hosts the Sithonia Peninsula, the second phalanx, or because its waters are considered among the purest and warmest in the whole Aegean and the Mediterranean so much so that many species of fish come right here to reproduce.

How to get to Afitos Beach

Simply looking at the map heading towards the enchanting village and that's it. Since Afitos is a charming tourist resort, if you don't have your own transport, there is a public bus service from the other main towns. As always, we recommend that you check the timetable to avoid being "on foot".

A stop to be noted among the things to see in the Chalkidiki Peninsula, in addition to a splendid day at the beach you can also admire the particular village and therefore make the most of your time.
