Chalkidiki Peninsula Beaches
Chalkidiki peninsula this large and still unknown to many people who only in recent years are beginning to show interest not realizing what they have been missing up to now. Many would prefer it to remain hidden for a long time but now, her beauty is being more and more 'discovered and sponsored that eventually she too will be stormed by mass tourism. The important thing is to choose the right areas and the right time to enjoy so much magnificence without risking being on top of each other. Having said that, which can even be discouraging, believe us, a visit to his three fingers will be a pleasant surprise from all points of view and you will forget about the people around you.
Let's start by saying that the Chalkidiki Peninsula is made up of three phalanxes, the first Kassandra, the second Sithonia and the third the mystical Mount Athos where it is possible to go only in some points as it is considered sacred and accessible only to the male world.
However, most visitors stay on the first two which offer beaches that rival even the most Caribbean or tropical places on the planet. To give you a correct vision we will divide them by area so you can have a trace on how to organize yourself.
West Kassandra Peninsula
Nea Skioni Beach
We find Nea Skioni beach southwest of the Kassandra peninsula in the village of the same name and near the thermal springs of Agia Paraskevi. Awarded with the Blue Flag, it is a long coast of soft white sand with calm and clean waters, a blue-turquoise sea with shallow waters ideal for families with children and for those with mobility problems. It is well equipped with sun beds, umbrellas and behind it there are many delicious traditional taverns where you can taste the excellent and fresh fish that is brought in every day by local fishing boats. For the little ones a large playground while for the bigger ones there are tennis and beach volleyball courts. The town that surrounds it is a perfect place for a relaxing holiday on the Chalkidiki Peninsula thanks also to the wonderful nature made up of enchanted woods where you can take a walk or romantic sunsets where sky and sea take on colors to melt even the most ' granite.
Siviri Beach
Siviri beach is in Thermi gulf on the west side in the north part. A long beach of clear sand, blue sea with transparent and clean waters with a gently sloping seabed, excellent for children and the elderly. Behind rolling hills of woods that reach the sea, a real postcard landscape! It is well equipped with umbrellas, deck chairs, beach bars where you can find something quick and light to eat as well as refreshing drinks, while for the more demanding, the village of the same name offers typical taverns where you can taste dishes based on fresh fish, precious gift of the few fishermen who still dedicate themselves to this ancient art. The rapidly expanding country manages to satisfy even the most demanding, there is no shortage of shops of all kinds and cafes where you can have an aperitif at sunset while enjoying so much charity from Mother Nature. From the Siviri beach you also benefit from a beautiful panorama of the mythical Mount Olympus, kingdom of the Gods. If, on the other hand, you want something more intimate and private, just after the city beach you can find enchanting coves protected by rocks where you can indulge in naturism.
Sani Beach
Sani beach is also to the north about ten kilometers from the lively Nea Fokea village. Clear sand that extends for several hundred meters, crystal clear waters, a bright blue sea that fades to deep blue, shallow waters for several meters from the shore, a perfect place for families with children where adults can finally relax without too many thoughts . Awarded every year by the coveted Blue Flag, the Sani beach offers its visitors excellent services as well as a nature of unique beauty. The coast is bordered by tamarisk trees which give shade in the hottest moments, sunbeds, umbrellas and traditional taverns where you can try the classic Greek cuisine, water games for all tastes, in short, we can truly say that nothing is missing for a wonderful day at sea. The only negative note is that a part of the beach is owned by the large Sani Resort hotel complex, thus leaving less space for those who want to be completely independent. If you want to, however, just continue a little, it's about five kilometers south to meet Siamantro beach, an oasis of peace and relaxation with its white sand and a thick forest behind it.
Mola Kalyva Beach
Mola Kalyva beach is located a few kilometers from the lively seaside resort of Possidi. A long stretch of small pebbles mixed with flat stones and soft sand in some areas, all accompanied by clear waters, a sea that fades from turquoise to cobalt blue from the seabed that descends slowly, this is the only reason why every year it is awarded with the Flag Blue. You will notice in some points some sandbags, well they have been positioned to allow you to reach the wonderful shoal just after the shore. Mola Kalyva beach is surrounded by thick vegetation of trees that reach the shore making the environment very exotic. In part it is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, taverns and beach bars, while an area is completely free. About twenty kilometers away are the thermal baths of Agia Parskevi with its typical mountain village protected by the forest. Ideal destination for a quiet day as being in a bit isolated it is not part of the mass tourism circuit.
Mendi Beach
Mendi beach is located about two kilometers from the town of Possidi to the south. Its fame is mainly due to the ancient sanctuary from which the entire region takes its name. More than two and a half kilometers long, it is basically made of sand mixed with small pebbles, while the part on the left has flat stones that are less suitable for children. The sea has a beautiful turquoise color with transparent waters and all around a rich vegetation which, in addition to giving shade in the hottest moments, gives the landscape a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere, also protecting it from traffic and noise. It is partly equipped while a lot of space is free. It is not very well known, in fact it is almost never crowded, take note if you want a day of total relaxation.
Possidi Beach
Possidi beach also called Miti di Posidi (myths = nose in Greek), Ammoglossa or Capo Possidi, the choice is yours, is another beach unique work of Mother Nature. If you look at it from above, it has the shape of a foot where the homonymous village of her is located in the heel. Mythology links it to the God of the Seas Poseidon and today there are finds (unfortunately very few) of the temple dedicated to him dating back to the 2nd century BC. A long sandbank that divides the sea in two, which changes shape according to the sea currents and tides, a deserted place of soft, shiny white sand surrounded by clear waters and a sea of iridescent colors where the wind blows only on one side, leaving completely calm the other. A paradise on earth that is still original and where modernity has not changed its morphology, to indulge in unforgettable hours of sublime beauty in the void. Before this little Eden there is a thick vegetation of olive and pine trees where you can find civilization and equipped beaches then only uncontaminated nature, what more could you ask for.
Fourka Beach
Fourka beach is located in the middle of the Kassandra Peninsula. Also called Skala Fourka, it is made up of white sand bathed by calm, intense blue waters, clean and crystalline with seabeds that slope gently alternating flat rocks until they become completely sandy so as to create wonderful shoals. It is well equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds, lifeguards, beach bars, typical taverns and cafes as well as small supermarkets if you decide during your visit to place yourself in one of the free and unserved areas. The sunset from Fourka beach is something indescribable, the sky is colored with ever-changing shades that leave you speechless every time. Given its comfort and the beauty of the environment, it is awarded the Blue Flag every year. Although it is very popular, given its size, even in the high season it is never overcrowded, there is plenty of space for everyone without getting in the way. Don't miss to visit the ancient village of Fourka in the hinterland towards the mountain, a village suspended between heaven and earth where time seems to have stopped and where you can admire a creepy panorama.
East Kassandra Peninsula
Polychrono Beach
Polychrono beach is found in the middle between the Hanioni village and the Kriopigi village in the center of the Kassandra peninsula. Awarded the Blue Flag for its cleanliness and its perfect organization, it has a long coastline of almost seven kilometers of fine light sand bathed by transparent and blue waters with a shallow seabed in the first few meters of the shore. The vegetation made of verdant pine forests and boundless olive groves, give the environment a typically holiday flavor so much so that the Polychrono beach is considered one of the best in Kassandra. It is super-equipped with several beaches offering sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars and water games. In the village behind you will find all the possible comforts both for catering with a vast selection of typical taverns, trendy restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as shops of all kinds and accommodation for any budget. For a break from the sun, it's worth a visit to the ruins of the ancient city of Neapolis above the hill where the Acropolis and an early Christian church are located. If you are a nature lover instead, a stop at the small lake of Mavrobara is a must. It is about three kilometers away which you can also do with a nice walk or mountain bike through routes that will make you discover this beautiful part of the Chalkidiki peninsula and admire a particular species of turtle in the lake that lives only here.
Kallithea Beach
Kallithea beach is north on the east coast of Kassandra. Coast of the town of the same name, one of the most renowned and sought after tourist resorts for a holiday on the Chalkidiki Peninsula which welcomes many visitors especially families with children and young people for the quality of its services and for the opportunities for entertainment. An extensive beach of clear sand, providential trees and vegetation that offer natural shade, turquoise and transparent waters with a seabed that slopes down flat, perfect for children, the elderly and those who love to take long swims. Fully equipped to the point of going crazy in which lido to spread out your towel, it offers sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, typical taverns and sports activities. For a moment of history, the finds of the Temple of Ammon Zeus an ancient Doric sanctuary dating back to the 4th century BC where previously the Water Lilies and the God Dionysus were venerated who according to legend lived below the rock where the church is today.
Kriopigi Beach
Kriopigi beach is a small pearl of the Kassandra Peninsula. We find it about halfway on the east side and it is the city beach of the town of the same name, which is also a favorite destination for visitors for its many opportunities for recreation, catering and accommodation. The myth tells that Kriopigi was part of the heroic war between Gods and Giants while modern history connects it to one of the ugliest moments of Greece when the Ottoman Empire conquered it and right here women and children were sold as slaves so as to be called by another name Pasarakia which in Turkish means bazaar which was later changed in 1953 to Kriopigi due to the sources of cold water (krios in Greek means cold) which are present throughout the area. Kriopigi beach has a long strip of fine white sand, clear and turquoise waters with a sloping bottom mixed with gravel while behind it, gentle hills covered with maritime pines that sometimes reach the shore, an authentic paradise! It is mostly equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds and a few small kiosks for something cool to drink and quick to eat, while if you are used to full lunches you can look in one of the many traditional taverns behind for the one that most falls within the your culinary desires. Even lovers of naturism will be satisfied near a small campsite where you can stay in close contact with Mother Nature. Kriopigi beach can be reached either with your own transport or with public buses from the major seaside resorts of the Chalkidiki Peninsula.
Golden Beach
Golden Beach can be found in a beautiful and large bay between Pefkochori and Paliouri. The coast is made of small pebbles, clean and crystalline waters, a turquoise blue sea with a seabed that descends slowly, therefore perfect for families with children. Its favorable position always shelters it from the winds, thus making it excellent for spending a wonderful day at the beach. An extra touch is given by the luxuriant forest behind it which gives natural shade during the hottest hours. Some areas are organized with sunbeds, umbrellas and beach bars where you can find something to eat and drink, while other areas are totally free so you can put your towel where it seems best to you. A small oasis of tranquility where it would be advisable to arrive early in the morning to get the best seats.
Chrousso Beach
Chrousso beach is also known as Kanavitsa beach and we also find it between Paliouri and Pefkochori. A dream of a beach made of sand that looks like flour due to its fineness and dazzling white that extends for almost a kilometer and a half, extremely clean and crystalline waters, a calm sea that goes from blue to intense turquoise with a seabed that descends slowly making it a real paradise for families with children. All around pine trees which in contrast with the other colors of the environment create a landscape worthy of an impressionist painting. Chrousso beach enclosed in its splendid and homonymous bay is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and many water activities to do during the day. Several beach bars offer something cool to drink and eat. Among other things, three of these are among the most famous and glamorous of the Kassandra Peninsula for its epic parties and Dj-sets with international artists that attract young and old from all over the world.
Glarokavos Beach
Glarokavos beach is also to the south and is considered one of the most scenic of the whole Chalkidiki peninsula. An incredible natural lagoon with an exotic flavor also called Blue Lake due to its shape, made of sand mixed with some pebbles that in some parts become stones, a sea with iridescent colors so as to make you think of distant lost destinations, transparent and incredibly clean waters with backdrops that slope down ideally for the little ones. All surrounded by a lush forest that accentuates even more the contrast of colors that form this little corner of paradise. It is partly equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds and a beach bar for something to eat or drink. A part however is totally free and here you can truly merge with Mother Nature so as to become one. The only possible activity is snorkeling but it will undoubtedly be an experience you will always remember.
Pefkochori Beach
Pefkochori beach in the southern part has a coastline made up of small light-colored pebbles, an always calm turquoise sea with gently sloping seabed and clear, crystalline waters so as to be able to clearly see the depth, perfect for families with children and for swimming lovers. Its name derives from Pefka which in Greek means pine due to the abundance of its beautiful trees that surround it extending towards the Toroneaos bay and making the landscape almost fairytale. It is very well equipped, there are many beaches where you can relax and enjoy pleasant moments between the sea and the warm rays of the sun. There are sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, many water activities such as the classic banana boat or the jetsky. The homonymous village across the road offers its visitors all modern comforts and a wide range of typical taverns, international restaurants, cafes, bars and shops of all kinds. For those who love do-it-yourself and want to be absolutely independent, a part of the beach is completely free.
West Sithonia peninsula
Kalogria Beach
Kalogria beach is located in the northern part five kilometers from the lively Nikiti village and near the lagoon of the same name. It is about half a kilometer long and has a coastline of soft, almost white sand bathed by transparent and turquoise waters with a shallow seabed perfect for families with children. The coast is dotted with lush vegetation which makes the landscape exotic as well as being a natural protection from the sun. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a beach bar where you can find drinks and food, while one area is completely free and therefore you can choose your little corner of paradise. On the Kalogria beach there is a very famous bar the Bar Isla which attracts many young people offering music and entertainment until late. Being very well known during the summer period it tends to fill up so if you want to enjoy it in peace it would be better to get there early in the morning and avoid the weekends. A swim at night is a must since the waters are always warm!
Elia Beach
Elia beach is also to the north in the Nikiti area. A couple of kilometers long, it offers a sandy and rocky beach where in some areas the cliff is low and surrounded by pine trees that almost touch the sea, giving shade until after midday. The sea has crazy colors, its waters are crystal clear and the pebble bottom descends very slowly. Given the presence of stones, bathing shoes are recommended to avoid getting hurt and ruining your holiday. The vegetation is very luxuriant and gives a flavor almost from distant countries. It is partly equipped and let's say that the majority is owned by the hotels behind it, but there are also beaches where you can stop and enjoy a wonderful day at the beach. One area, on the other hand, is completely free and if you decide to stop here during your holiday on the Chalkidiki peninsula, remember to bring everything you need to eat and drink. From Elia beach you can enjoy a sunset that will leave you speechless.
Lagomandra Beach
Lagomandra beach is located towards the south of the Sithonia peninsula and is one of the most popular. Less than seven kilometers away we meet Neos Marmaras the largest seaside town of the second phalanx of Chalkidiki. One kilometer long, it is divided into two parts by a small ridge. With a semicircular shape, it has a coast of soft sand bathed by a clean and turquoise sea with a gently sloping seabed, a paradise for children. The northern part is the most crowded and requested with its trees, a warm sea and fully equipped. The southern part, on the other hand, is preferred by lovers of water sports and long swim enthusiasts. In both cases, as far as catering is concerned, there are beach bars and taverns where you can find something to drink or eat. For do-it-yourself lovers there are also completely free areas where you can put your deckchair and your parasol. Given its position, wonderful and romantic sunsets can also be enjoyed from the Lagomandra beach. It can be reached very easily via the main asphalt road following the road signs. Upon your arrival, a convenient shaded parking area where you can leave your vehicle.
Spathies Beach
Spathies beach is located to the north in a beautiful little bay. Almost every year it is awarded the Blue Flag (like many beaches on the Chalkidiki peninsula) for its clean waters and the lush nature that surrounds it. It is divided into two parts, the first a lagoon with a small coast of fifty meters where there is a single large tree to take refuge in search of some shade. Cliffs protect it from the wind and therefore perfect for families with children, to hang out a towel and sunbathe or to go for long swims. To the south, however, there is the large beach, also of soft sand where, however, there is no shelter. Both are not equipped, so if you stay all day, bring everything and more.' Despite its beauty, especially the widest part is almost never crowded unlike the small lagoon.
Agios Ioannis Beach
Agios Ioannis beach is towards the south on the road to Neos Marmaras. A seven hundred meters long beach made of soft light sand bathed by calm, clean and aquamarine colored waters with a bottom that descends slowly, ideal for the little ones. It is organized with sunbeds, umbrellas and several beach bars where you can find a refreshing drink and something to chew on when hunger strikes. One area is free and much loved by DIY enthusiasts. It can be reached very easily by following the main road and the road signs, offering a panoramic view to capture.
Toron Beach
Toroni beach is always awarded with the Blue Flag for the quality of its environment and we find it in the extreme south on the west coast. Famous for its extraordinary landscape made up of a long coastline (we are talking about almost four kilometers) of soft fine clear sand and crystalline waters of an intense blue with a seabed that descends quickly enough to combine with a luxuriant wooded countryside of pines and olive trees make the scenery idyllic. The view of the gulf and the Aegean is something amazing especially during sunset. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a beach bar, while the village of the same name offers many opportunities for both catering and accommodation. A couple of kilometers from Toroni you can visit Porto Koufo full of taverns where you can enjoy excellent fresh fish and seafood. History is also present in the area with its beautiful Byzantine churches and the remains of the ancient castle of Likythos. Snorkelling enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the underwater world as well as the ruins of the ancient sunken city at the harbour. Given its extension, it is never overcrowded even in the high season, therefore excellent for a quiet day at the beach.
Sithonia Peninsula East
Livrochio Beach
Livrochio beach which is also called Livrohio or Trani Ammounda, is located in the north-eastern part and is classified as one of the most beautiful in Sithonia. Less than half a kilometer from the Ormos Panagias village, it has a coastline of over two kilometers of white sand with clear and transparent waters with a color that changes from blue to turquoise and sandy bottoms that slope down, perfect for families with children. Given its size, even in high season it is never too crowded. It is partly equipped with all the comforts both for catering and for entertainment while some sections are totally free but be careful there are no shaded areas so if you opt for a day in freedom it would be better to bring an umbrella. To the south above the promontory the ancient city of Sigos with its Byzantine tower.
Lagonisi Beach
Lagonissi beach is northeast between Ormos Panagias three kilometers on the road leading to Voruvourou. Wedged in its bay of the same name, it is immersed in the Mediterranean scrub that almost reaches the seafront. With a hook shape, it has a coast of soft light sand, clean, clear and blue waters with a gently sloping seabed. Opposite the Diaporos island which naturally shelters it from the winds thus making it one of the most sought after places for a peaceful day at the beach. Organized but only since 2015, it offers a large beach bar with sunbeds, umbrellas and a restaurant service. The right side of the beach, on the other hand, is "semi-free" in the sense that you can put yourself wherever you like but there is a ticket costing €5 per person to pay for access. If you are not satisfied with a quick DIY snack or a light meal at the beach bar, just move a few kilometers to the Ormos Panagias village where you can find several taverns and savor fresh fish and delicacies of Greek and local cuisine. From the village boats leave every day to go on an excursion to Mount Athos. For snorkelers, the Lagonissi Lagoon offers many coves where you can explore the rich marine fauna and flora, so remember your fins and mask. On the contrary, for those who love walking more, there are many wonderful paths through the pine forest and the mountain behind. Given its beauty during the summer period it is especially full of families with children so if you want silence and only the sound of the sea it is not exactly the place for you. Lagonisi beach can only be reached with your own vehicle, with a taxi or by sea from Ouranoupoli where organized excursions leave every day.
Vourvourou Beach
Vourvourou beach is exactly between the Ormos village and the Sarti village, the latter very popular for a holiday in the Chalkidiki Peninsula. A thin sandy coast divided into several parts where the hotels are the masters and offer all kinds of services, so if you want to be free you have to go south of the coast where there are no accommodation facilities. Soft and white sand mixed with some small pebbles, crystal clear and shallow waters ideal for the little ones here is what to expect from Vourvourou beach. For a break from the warm sunrays, around the beach there is a wonderful coniferous forest and sea caves to be discovered. Excursions to Diaporos island with its golden coves leave every day.
Karidi Beach
The beautiful Karidi beach is a real magnet for visitors to the Chalkidiki peninsula. A beach of soft white sand, clear and transparent waters, a turquoise blue sea with shallow waters up to almost fifty meters from the shore, a real natural swimming pool where children can play safely until they drop while adults enjoy a sea show. Everything is still almost in its natural state, there are no sunbeds and umbrellas, everyone can carve out their own corner of paradise but be careful, during the summer it is highly sought after so it would be better to reach it early to get the best place. As for the restaurant, there are a bay of kiosks that serve delicious skewers of meat and fish to try absolutely as well as fresh drinks. If, on the other hand, you want to make yourself comfortable at the table, just take a few steps and behind you you will find some traditional taverns where you can taste the specialties of the area. The sunset from here is a sight to silence anyone!
Fava Beach
We find Fava beach just after Karidi beach going south and Vourvourou beach. A mixture of soft sand and gravel with the presence of large rocks scattered here and there, transparent and clean waters, a shallow seabed but with some stones so if you have delicate feet it would be better to have rock shoes. The coast is located higher than the beach and for this reason it is always very protected from the winds. For diving lovers, some points are perfect for jumping into its clear sea which is deeper and allows spectators to bewitch acrobatics. Fava beach is much loved above all by the locals who gather at the weekend to spend a wonderful day at the beach. It is not equipped, everything is in its primordial state, so if you decide to come here during your holiday on the Chalkidiki Peninsula, remember to bring everything you need.
Platanitsi Beach
Platanitsi beach is found five kilometers north towards the Sarti village. In reality it is the internal beach of the municipal campsite which, however, can be accessed easily, just having a drink at the bar which, in addition to refreshing drinks, also offers quick snacks or traditional Greek dishes. A tongue of white sand almost half a kilometer long divided by a river in the middle with clean and blue waters and a wonderful view of Mount Athos which is right in front. Fully equipped, for lovers of activities there will be spoiled for choice ranging from fun jet skis to nice inflatables for the little ones, canoes and a beach volleyball court where you can challenge old or new friends , all seasoned with excellent music from the beach bar.
Goa Beach
Goa beach is about three kilometers south of the Sarti village. A sandy coast on the shore which then becomes gravel and rocks is not really suitable for families with children because it is not very convenient to enter the water. On three sides it is surrounded by mountain with a fantastic view of Mount Athos, but despite the presence of the cliffs it remains subject to winds that create waves making swimming or snorkelling difficult. It is well organized with sunbeds, umbrellas and a picturesque beach bar which has given the environment an Asian atmosphere with music and events and for this very reason it is very popular with a young audience. Reaching it can be one of the deterrents that keep tourists away as the road to get there is dirt and winding but it is still a very beautiful place to see.
Agridia Beach
Agridia beach, given its almost hidden position among the rocks in the Sikia area, is never crowded even during the summer, on the contrary, it offers days of pure relaxation. Partly surrounded by flat rocks that protect it from the winds and perfect for diving, it has an area of soft golden sand, transparent and clear waters with a sandy bottom that descends very slowly for the first few meters, therefore perfect for families with children . Given its shape, it is also ideal for those who love snorkelling and discovering the underwater world. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas as well as a small canteen that offers local dishes and fresh products where you can give vent to your taste buds. The Agridia beach is little known and remote enough to be a real little gem where you can spend a quiet day at the beach away from chaos and noise.
Klimataria Beach
Klimataria beach is located to the south about fifteen kilometers from Sarti, a lively tourist town much sought after for a holiday on the Chalkidiki Peninsula as it offers sea and mountains. It looks like a small coastline of fine and clear sand with crystalline and clear waters, a turquoise sea with a gently sloping seabed, perfect for those who love to indulge in long and regenerating swims. Even snorkelers at Klimataria beach will find great satisfaction in search of marine fauna and flora. It is well supplied with sunbeds, umbrellas and a choice of typical taverns where you can taste excellent fresh fish and seafood as well as Greek cuisine delicacies or opt for something quicker and lighter in a beach bar. An area of the beach is free and therefore you can spread your towel where you feel most inspired. Its position always shelters it from the winds and offers a calm sea where you can spend unforgettable moments passing through other small beaches such as Linaraki beach, Pagadaki beach and Troukolimnionas beach which eventually turns into Klimataria beach. You can reach it with your own vehicle and then leave it in a convenient parking lot.
Kiaritsi Beach
Kiaritsi beach can be found in the southern part of the Sithonia peninsula in the Sikia area and close to Kalamitsi beach. It is not visible from the main road as it is hidden by a place called "the ghost town", a place that was to be born as a tourist area unfortunately never finished and currently abandoned. In reality, Kiaritsi beach is made up of three different beaches that cover almost a kilometre. Two smaller coves separated by some rocks where naturism lovers like to stop, and a larger area, the main one, where there is also a campsite, sunbeds, umbrellas as well as two beach bars and a minimarket where you can find first necessity. The coasts are made of thick grain sand bathed by crystal clear waters and a sparkling blue sea with depths that descend immediately quickly therefore not really suitable for families with children.
Kalamitsi Beach
Kalamitsi beach is located in the extreme southern part at the foot of the village of the same name. It is considered one of the most picturesque of the Sithonia Peninsula due to its long coast where you can find many coves that are still pristine and wilder than ever. Kalamitsi beach is perfect for a day of total relaxation away from the crowds and noise for unforgettable hours. It is divided into three parts, the center is the most served area with sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, typical taverns and water activities, on the sides instead pure and pure nature where even naturism lovers can experience the environment according to their creed . White and fine sand everywhere, clear, turquoise and a little cold waters, a seabed that descends almost immediately, all surrounded by cliffs that shelter it from the winds.
Mount Athos
Ierissos Beach
We find Ierissos beach in the third phalanx of the Chalkidiki peninsula in the north on the east side. A quiet beach in fact the whole third toe is quiet either because to visit Mount Athos you must necessarily be male and therefore few venture up to here, missing out on a wonderful part in any case, in our opinion. The Ierissos beach is a long coastline that extends for more than a kilometer made of gold-colored sand mixed with small stones, clear and transparent waters, a blue and emerald sea with depths that descend slowly for the first few meters, therefore perfect for families with children. It is partly very well equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas while behind it you will find a wide choice of restaurants, typical taverns, bars and cafes for something to eat or drink. One area, on the other hand, is completely free and here you can spread out your towel wherever you like best, perhaps under one of the providential trees that frame it and enjoy the shade during the hottest hours of the day. Lovers of water sports will also have plenty to enjoy and camping enthusiasts will find a very comfortable structure for a holiday on the Chalkidiki Peninsula in total freedom. The village behind it offers all the possible comforts to spend unforgettable days. Every year it is awarded with three Blue Flags!
Kakoudia Beach
Kakoudia beach is in the northeast of the Mount Athos Peninsula and it can be honestly said that it is a real natural work of art. Perfect for nature lovers as it is still uncontaminated and in its original state, it has a coastline of soft and fine light sand with spectacular rocks shaped by atmospheric events that emerge from the sea, crystal clear waters, a blue sea that fades to blue intense and sandy bottoms that descend slowly a real corner with an exotic flavor. Kakoudia beach is not equipped so remember to bring everything you need if you decide to spend the whole day there. Given its position, it is exposed to winds which when they blow form large waves so be very careful. It too is never overwhelmed by tourists who are very few compared to those that can be found in the other two peninsulas, thus making it an oasis of relaxation and where to recharge one's energies. From here the sunset is sublime.
Komitsa Beach
Komitsa beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches of Mount Athos and like almost all its sisters it is located in the northeast about five kilometers from Nea Rodha. In reality there are two coasts divided by a promontory which creates two different areas. In all, it is almost four kilometers long and is hardly overcrowded, on the contrary you can enjoy so much goodness in absolute peace and tranquillity. The smallest part is located right in front of the campsite, the perfect solution for an independent holiday, to be in close contact with nature and is in the direction of the Sacred Mountain so much so that at its end begins the wall that protects the inviolable zone. A coast of coarse sand bathed by a turquoise and transparent sea with gently sloping seabed, all surrounded by rich and verdant vegetation. Komitsa beach is still in its primary state, sunbeds and umbrellas can only be found where the campsite is, otherwise it is completely free.
Nea Roda Beach
We find the beach of Nea Roda in the north-east and it is the city beach of the village of the same name, a small town perfect for a relaxing holiday where, however, there is no shortage of primary comforts. A long beach of soft coarse sand bathed by clear and turquoise waters with a seabed that descends slowly, ideal for families and for swimming lovers. Given its position it is sometimes windswept but just head to the opposite coast and everything is resolved. The seafront behind it offers several traditional taverns where you can savor tasty dishes of classic Greek and local cuisine based on very fresh fish, small restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. It is partly equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas at the cost of a compulsory drink. Don't miss a visit to Kakovo Monastery the first pilgrimage station for Hiladar Monastery. A large property with a wonderful church, monastic workshops and a private lake where you can stop and taste the "lokum" a typical Turkish candy made of starch jelly and sugar with pistachios as well as visit the shop inside which sells interesting books. Another unmissable stop in Nea Roda is the Xerxes Canal dating back to 480 BC built by the tyrant to let his fleet pass and avoid circumnavigating Mount Athos as in his first attempt right 'there' all his ships were sunk.
Ouranoupolis Beach
Ouranoupoli beach is the city beach of the village of the same name, famous for being the border point with the monastic state of Athos forbidden to women and which welcomes only men with a particular reason and after making a complicated question which, once accepted, allows to stay there for only four nights. A coastline almost five kilometers long of soft golden sand mixed with pebbles and a turquoise sea with calm and transparent waters from the bottom that descends slowly, a paradise for families with children. Between immense stretches and small secluded bays where there could only be you, Ouranoupoli beach is of extraordinary natural beauty with green hills that surround it so much that it earns the Blue Flag every year. The only drawback if we can define it this way is that very little natural shade so if you decide to camp in one of the free areas, remember to bring something to protect you from the sun. A stretch of the beach, on the other hand, is very well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars and a vast choice of sporting activities to do. The village is full of typical taverns, restaurants, cafes, shops and many accommodation facilities for all budgets. From Ouranoupoli we leave for excursions to Mount Athos and the fantastic Ammouliani Island. A bit of history, Ouranoupoli was founded by the philosopher and soldier Alexandros, brother of the Macedonian King Kassander. Last but not least, the sunset from here is to be left speechless...
Voulitsa Beach
Voulitsa beach is located between Nea Roda village and Komitsa village in the northern part of the Mount Athos Peninsula on the east side. A small cove covered with soft sand, lapped by a blue sea, clear waters with a seabed that drops very quickly, so if you are a family with children, be careful when the little ones enter the water. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas as well as a bar where you can find quick snacks, refreshing drinks, all accompanied by a background of chill out music and where on weekends, with a DJ, parties are organized based on colorful cocktails, ball and fun from dusk until the crack of dawn. Voulitsa beach can only be reached with your own vehicle through a dirt road which, if traveled all the way, leads to another larger but terribly wild coast where there are very few people, sometimes even none.
Legend ex Wet Dreams Beach
Legend beach once called Wet Dreams is located about six hundred and fifty meters north of Nea Roda we can almost say that they are one continuation of the other in a nutshell and that you can also reach it with a nice walk from the village. A coast of soft sand bathed by clean and crystalline waters, a sea that goes from blue to turquoise to deep blue with a seabed that descends slowly, excellent for the little ones who can play safely all day long. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, while fitness enthusiasts can keep fit by playing beach volleyball. A nice bar manages the beach, offering its guests colorful and refreshing cocktails as well as light and quick snacks. For do-it-yourself lovers, however, an area is completely free and you can put yourself where you feel most inspired. A beach for a quiet day with a respectable environment.
Ksiropotamos Beach
Ksiropotamos beach is found northwest of Mount Athos before arriving at Trypiti beach about six kilometers aross the hinterland of the third peninsula from Ireissos. A beach of white sand with an intense blue sea, clear, transparent and always calm waters with a seabed that gradually slopes down, excellent for families with children who can have fun in total safety while adults enjoy this secret treasure chest. The view of Ammouliani is is something surprising and together with the natural beauty of the beach makes the environment a real postcard. Ksiropotamos beach is surrounded by rolling hills dotted with trees that even reach the shore, perfect for shelter during the hottest hours. It is not equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, you can spread out your towel and plant the parasol where you like best. For something to drink and eat instead a suitable family-run tavern where you can find fresh drinks and traditional Greek dishes based on very fresh fish as well as delicacies of local recipes. Also don't forget your fins and mask, while snorkeling you can meet nice seahorses and sometimes a curious black dolphin.
Trypiti Beach
Trypiti beach also called Agios Pavlos can be found on the western slope in the northern part of Mount Athos. A long coastline with soft sand caressed by clear and crystalline waters with bright colors and a shallow seabed, a real boon for families with children and for those who love to indulge in long and regenerating swims. Given its natural beauty and excellent services, it is awarded the Blue Flag every year. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas as well as a beach bar where you can find something fresh to drink and eat. But let's say that the comforts are owned by a large luxury resort that overlooks the beach. You can find some free corner if you look for it but remember to bring everything you need if you want to stay for a long time.
