Mourou Beach Amorgos

Mourou beach is considered one of the most beautiful in Amorgos and you will understand it only when you go to visit it. We find it in the southwestern part of the island exactly between the Arkesini village and the Kamari village. The capital Chora the capital is about fifteen kilometers away while Katapola seventeen.

Wedged in a splendid bay, Mourou beach is a narrow coastline of coarse gray sand mixed with small pebbles, bathed by a spectacular sea with a color that goes from turquoise to intense blue since the seabed as for most of the Amorgos island immediately become deep giving that particular shade and clean, limpid and extremely crystalline waters.

On the one hand an imposing cliff that almost like a tender embrace wants to protect it and on the other only the majestic Aegean sea. A wild and uncontaminated landscape, this is what you will find at Mourou beach, where Mother Nature has modeled its rocks with wind and salt, which many choose among other things to enjoy the warm sun rays of Greece to the fullest.

It is defined as one of the most impressive beaches of Amorgos, for its natural beauty so raw, rugged where human intervention has not yet tried to set foot (and we sincerely hope that it never does) and also thanks to the two wonderful caves submerged marine on the right side all to be explored and discovered. You can reach the cavities by swimming and we advise you to do it with adequate equipment to be able to enjoy them to the fullest. Let's say that the whole bay is very interesting to see, in fact, snorkelers and scuba divers can really enjoy themselves here and learn about the flora and fish fauna present.

It goes without saying that no sunbeds and umbrellas are equipped here, you can put your towel where you will feel most inspired. As for water and food, you can take advantage of the tavern overlooking the beach where fresh fish dishes, local specialties and classic Greek cuisine are served where you can also enjoy a fantastic view.

If on the other hand, you are a DIY lover, remember to bring everything you need for the time you decide to stay.

Mourou beach is very popular and also highly sought after by tourists, so especially in the high season we recommend that you reach it early in the morning so that you can enjoy it in peace.

Let's start by saying that you have to get to the northern part on the west side of Amorgos. Follow the road signs to Kamari village and turn left a couple of kilometers earlier from the main road where you will find the sign for Mourou. At the end the road stops right where the tavern is, so leave your vehicle here and continue on foot on the path that descends towards the beach. In about ten minutes you will be at your destination. It should be noted that the last stretch is a bit steep but feasible if you are careful and maybe not wearing the canonical flip-flops.

For those who have decided not to rent a car or a scooter, from the Chora, there are rides that go to the beach at a cost of € 2 per day but in this case, make sure you check the bus timetables.

Amorgos is a fabulous island, very different from the others, still almost intact and which offers “different” beaches, included in the list of things to see in Amorgos, Mourou beach will be a wonderful experience.
