Maltezi Beach Amorgos

2 minutes to read

Maltezi Beach, we find it in a beautiful bay on the west side about half of the island near the picturesque Katapola village, one of the two landing ports that allow you to reach Amorgos.

It has a very picturesque aspect and presents itself with a coast of soft fine and clear sand, a sea with colors that go from emerald to turquoise to deep blue with clean and transparent waters. The seabed does not descend quickly and for this reason it is very popular with families with children. Behind it, gentle slopes with a typical appearance of the Cyclades Islands which, as in an affectionate embrace, shelter it from the much feared Meltemi, the Greek wind. Slabs of stone and rocks instead will be the natural playground for snorkelers who can have fun in search of the marine fauna and flora present.

Maltezi beach in addition to its wild beauty is very coveted by visitors because of the absence of air that allows you to spend relaxing days under the warm Hellenic sun between one swim and another.

It is partly equipped with sun beds and umbrellas, while a large area is completely free and you can put yourself where you like best. Maltezi beach is much loved by naturalists, in fact it will not be difficult to meet someone "without veils". For something to drink or eat, however, during the summer there is a small bar that offers refreshing drinks and quick snacks.

Ahead on the right from Maltezi beach after the hill, there is another beautiful spot where you can find tranquility and privacy, Plakes beach, a rocky shore and secluded boulders where you can enjoy crystal clear waters in peace. Reaching it is not really that easy, you have to cross the promontory by a dirt path with a walk of about half an hour under the sun, the decision is yours!

How to get to Maltezi Beach

There are two possibilities to reach this beautiful beach, the first and the most comfortable is by sea. There are no roads that can be used by cars or mopeds that reach here, you have to take one of the boats that from the port of Katapola every day at different times head towards the coast where the beaches are. At the port you will find several of them and you can buy the ticket directly on board. Always remember to take note of the times before staying on foot or abandoned until the next day on the beach (and here I think that many will do it, a night under the stars with only the sound of the sea who wouldn't like it?).

The second option, on the other hand, always with its own particular charm, is on foot. As we repeat perhaps even to boredom, Amorgos is one of the most suitable islands for trekking, there are many itineraries to see wonderful places and with different eyes since during the walk you can see things that with a vehicle you do not have the time and the opportunity to scrutinize. So to get to the beach of Maltezi by walking, just follow the path that starts from Xylokeratidi one of the three districts of Katapola, pass the cemetery and continue until you reach a rock, pass it you will see the beach below you and you will have arrived. It takes about forty minutes, it depends on what pace you have and how many times you stop to admire the surroundings.

Here is another opportunity to get to know the area better and to mark yourself among the things to see in Amorgos to enjoy a beautiful day at the beach and enrich your knowledge of this amazing island.
