Agioi Seranta Beach Amorgos
Agioi Saranta Beach which in Greek means forty saints, we find it in the southern part on the west side of Amorgos about five kilometers from the port of Katapola.
A perfect beach for those who love privacy and naturalism as it is not very popular even in peak seasons. All this derives from the fact that the coast is very wild, completely free, does not offer any type of service and there is not even shade as it is almost desert.
The beach is made of sand mixed with pebbles, bathed by a sea from turquoise to deep blue due to the seabed that immediately drops strongly therefore not really suitable for families with children. If you want to go for a swim, better if you are an expert swimmer, because given its open position, it is very subject to winds and sea currents. The waters are still clear and crystalline even if a little colder than other beaches.
If you want to spend the day, remember to bring everything you need, from drinks, food to something to protect you from the sun especially during the hottest hours.
Around the Agioi Saranta beach you can take the opportunity to take a ride on the green hill one of the few fertile areas of the island of Amorgos which is rather barren and almost lunar in appearance and perhaps reach the beach on foot. Also noteworthy is the presence of a stream, the Varmas stream which crosses the small valley where the solitary chapel of Agioi Saranta is visible below. In the surroundings for trekking lovers there are some beautiful routes to do that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
How to reach Agioi Saranta Beach
To get to Agioi Saranta beach it is better to have your own vehicle for hire, car or scooter, both are fine. Head south west keeping Katapola as a reference point following the road signs.
Definitely not the most beautiful and comfortable beach that can be found on the island, but certainly with its charm with a rough and wild flavor, ideal for a day (maybe not when there is wind) to spend relaxing and if you will be lucky in complete solitude. However, mark it among the things to see in Amorgos it could be an unusual alternative.
