Agia Anna Beach Amorgos

2 minutes to read

Agia Anna Beach, we find it on the east side of Amorgos in about half of the island, very close to the Chora the capital (we are talking about more or less three kilometers) and to the famous and mystical Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, a very important religious center for the islanders.

The homonymous and characteristic chapel with a blue dome often used for weddings not only by Greeks but also by foreigners who, kidnapped by the beautiful landscape, decide to swear eternal love and the beach, are well known in the world especially for the fact that some scenes from the legendary Luc Besson film “The Big Blue”.

Of a spectacular and wild beauty, it has a small pebble coast, bathed by an intense blue sea with extraordinarily clear waters and an immediately deep seabed and in this regard not really suitable for children. Behind it sharp cliffs and rocks that make the scenery unique and inimitable.

The Agia Anna beach is not equipped, there are no sunbeds and umbrellas, only a small bar where there is parking for something to drink and quick to eat. If you want to spend the whole day and want to be independent, remember to bring everything you need. You will not find even a little shade, no tree will be able to give you some natural shelter so also in this case, lots of sun cream, a hat or an umbrella. If you have delicate feet it is preferable to wear rock shoes so as to protect yourself well.

Being very popular, it tends to be quite crowded especially in the high season, our advice is to visit it either in the morning or in the late afternoon in order to be able to enjoy it in total tranquility.

It is perfect for snorkelling and diving lovers, thanks to the many ravines under the stacks that are teeming with marine flora and fauna. If you are good swimmers and you move away a little from the beach, the view of the Monastery clinging to the cliff on the left is a real postcard to keep forever in the luggage of the memories of your holiday in Amorgos.

For the more enterprising and for those who want privacy, there are paths that, with a little climbing between the rocks, lead to hidden coves where only you can stay there. On the right of the Agia Anna beach you can also find two other beaches, the Sirma beach and the Kambi beach which overlooks the Grand Viokastro, an islet of Amorgos very popular with naturists.

How to reach Agia Anna Beach

The most comfortable means of transport is certainly a rental vehicle. Just head following the road signs towards the beach or the Monastery, where you can leave your car and scooter at the parking lot and you will be there.

If you are not autonomous, from Chora and Katapola there are public buses every day at a cost of € 1.60 per person (consult the timetable).

For those who love walking instead, from the Chora there is a path that in about an hour will take you to the Agia Anna beach and also to the Monastery. The landscape and the view above all from the church is something exceptional, the views over the Aegean and the surrounding area will greatly reward the effort.

If for your holidays in Greece you have decided to come to this strange island, a visit to the beach and the Monastery is a must in the notes of the things to do in Amorgos!
