Votsi Village Alonissos

2 minutes to read

The picturesque Votsi village, we find it about a kilometer from Patitiri the capital in the north-east direction.

Positioned around a scenic natural bay in a semicircle formed by light-colored rocks and bordered by pines, it is the classic village with labyrinthine streets, hidden alleys and paths that lead into the houses and into the heart of the village with its shops and some cafes where stop for a drink and make friends with the locals.

With a true Greek flavor, Votsi is inhabited by about five hundred people permanently for the most part fishermen and despite its small size, nothing is missing starting from the inviting typical tavernas on the port that offer tasty dishes of always super fresh fish of the local tradition and Greek one of the reasons why visitors like to stop here '. The name derives from a Greek admiral Nikolaos Votsis who sank the Turkish flagship in Thessaloniki in the First Balkan War of 1913.

Being located on the slopes of low white cliffs streaked with red, the view that can be enjoyed is really very beautiful and in factof Votsi  village is very coveted by travelers to stay during their holidays in Greece in Alonissos. There are not many accommodation facilities such as hotels or apartments so you have to take time to book and find a place.

In Votsi, there is a small beach just right for a quick and regenerating swim. The littoral content is of pebbles and the sea is amazing with its bright turquoise color and extremely clear and transparent waters. No sunbeds and umbrellas are equipped but it will still be a great pleasure to spread out your towel and enjoy so much beauty for free. However, it is in the shade either under the pines overlooking the sea or just below the cliff. To access the beach, a natural stone staircase descends from the main road. In the characteristic port of Votsi small fishing boats called caiques dock and during the summer season many boats and yachts drop anchor to enjoy this magnificent scenery that Mother Nature has skillfully painted.

If, on the other hand, you want a slightly bigger beach, with a ten-minute walk you can reach Spartines beach, which is also free but where absolute peace reigns and where the sea will not disappoint you with its crystal clear and blue waters.

There is nothing historical or particular to visit in the village of Votsi, here one comes exclusively to admire the nature which has been very generous and which makes it the most beautiful of the whole island.

How to get to the Votsi Village

Very easy, if you like to walk from Patitiri it is a walk of about twenty minutes, otherwise by car or motorbike if you have your own vehicle or by bus.

Sometimes simplicity is the best thing and usually simple things are among the most beautiful just like the Votsi village, where there is nothing particular or noble, only an innocent essentiality that however satisfies the eyes and the mind.

Mark it in the things to see in Alonissos, perhaps for a romantic dinner in one of the seaside taverns or just for a pure moment of relaxation, you will not regret it.
