Agios Petros Beach Alonissos

2 minutes to read

The Agios Petros Beach, we find it in the south east part of the beautiful Alonissos Island less than a kilometer from the picturesque Steni Vala village. The capital Patitiri is about ten kilometers away.

Set in a magnificent bay with particular marble formations and surrounded by a fairy pine forest, it has a coastline mainly of pebbles with at times soft fine sand, bathed by a clean and crystalline sea from blue to emerald, a real and just heaven on earth. Still intact and uncontaminated, it is not yet besieged by mass tourism, thus resulting in a small oasis of peace. Note that being sheltered by trees, the shade comes quite early in the afternoon so 'if you are like lizards and love the sun it would be better to get there early in the morning so you can make the most of the warm rays of the sun.

Its name owes it to the homonymous Byzantine church which once stood right on the hill of which today you can only admire some remains hidden among the thick vegetation that covers this exciting area.

Obviously it is not equipped, for the shade you can take advantage of the trees that surround it like a warm hug and you can choose where you will most like to put your towel. Having no services, it is better to bring both a drink and something to eat in case you decide to spend the whole day on the Agios Petros Beach. The alternative is to go to the village of Steni Vala where you can find several typical taverns if your intention is to have a complete lunch based on super fresh fish and local delicacies, or look for a mini market and get the necessary.

How to reach Agios Petros Beach

There are several options for reaching Agios Petros beach. The easiest is always with a rental vehicle, motorcycles or cars are good in both cases. Head towards the village of Steni Vala following the road signs, turn right one kilometer before the village and continue for about three hundred meters up to a wooden gazebo. From here begins a dirt path that in a few minutes will lead you to the bay passing through a rich vegetation.

For those who want to travel by public transport, from Patitiri the capital every day there are races to Steni Vala. The rule is always the same, make sure you always check the timetables to avoid the risk of being "on foot" and having to take a taxi which obviously costs much more than the bus.

Walkers will be able to reach the beach in about fifteen minutes by passing a path immersed in the pine forest until they come out right on the beach, a very pleasant and interesting path.

The island of Alonissos is considered among the Greek islands with the cleanest waters of the Aegean Sea (not for nothing the first National Marine Park was born right here) and all its beaches are magnificent, Agios Petros given its proximity to the Steni Vala village deserves to be included in the list of things to do in Alonissos perhaps combining it with a visit to the village.
