Getting around in Alonissos
Alonissos is not a large island, its dimensions are more or less four kilometers wide by about twenty-two in length therefore very comfortable to get around and with not very long times that will force you to stay in the car or on the scooter for a long time.
A continuum of ups and downs between pine and oak forests, natural fissures and a luxuriant Mediterranean machine that offers constant perfumes, the constant chirping of cicadas, a sea that will leave you speechless with how beautiful it is and with intense colours, here's what to expect from Alonissos Island.
As for how to get around in Alonissos, you will have more possibilities but as indeed in any island of Greece, here it is a bit up to your spirit of adventure and adaptation on which solution to choose.
Scooter: the scooter is always a guarantee for getting around a small island, there are few parking problems and usually you can get everywhere. However, we want to give you some advice, given that Alonissos is all about going up and down, it would be better to take a scooter with a 150 cc engine capacity so as to be able to reach even the most inaccessible paths without difficulty. Also beware of the dirt roads that are not lacking in Alonissos, always have an eye out for it and drive carefully.
Quad: well, it's impossible not to go everywhere with the quad, you can almost get to the water if you want! Also in this case it would be better to have a displacement of more than 80 cc and above all be careful when driving, it seems easy but in reality it is not so much since the steering range is limited. Here, too, a lot of attention.
Car: for the more “comfortable” four-wheelers are certainly ideal. You go everywhere ok maybe you suffer a bit more for the parking but do you want to put a baggage where to put the impossible? Remember to always ask the renter if tire and dirt road insurance is included which is very important in case something happens. Usually you are not covered by insurance, it is up to you to take risks and in the event that you decide to take on this responsibility, have a conscience in driving. To remain calmer but also here the rules of insurance apply, certainly in such a steep and dirt-filled area, it would be better to rent a 4x4 which certainly gives more guarantee and reliability on such routes.
Bus: let's say that the public circuit is not exactly the best, there is a bus that connects Patitiri the capital to the Chora and Steni Vala among other things for the latter there are only three trips a day and that's it. For the first destination, the rides are more or less every hour and the ticket costs €1.50 each way. Always consult the timetables in the best possible way to better organize your travels.
Boats: here's definitely better but then we're at the sea... At Patitiri's you can find lots of them and at various prices. You can go and visit the most beautiful beaches of the island or the wonderful Marine National Park with the excursions that are proposed. The only sore point is that you will be bound to the timetables, you will not be able to change your destination if you are tired. In the morning around 8.30 go to the port and there you can decide where to go during your day.
