How to get to Alonissos

Only for adventure seekers who don't mind switching between multiple means to reach this beautiful and remote island.

Let's start by saying that there is no airport in Alonissos so the only way to get there is by sea. The closest Skiathos island and the risk of having to spend at least one night in Skiathos on the way out and in the worst case also the one on the way back is very probable, always depends on the flight schedules.

During the high season, there are many more flights that arrive directly to Skiathos, in other periods of the year not, of course you have to make a stopover and even in this case with the risk of forced stay for one or two days.

But we are sure that lovers of the Greek Islands don't care, after all, time is an opinion when you are a true discovery!

Let's begin to see what the possibilities are so that we can better organize our holiday in Alonissos.

Flight to Skiathos + ferry. This is usually the easiest solution and one that everyone prefers. The most important thing to take into consideration will be the timetables of the ferries that arrive from Skiathos to Alonissos. Often they don't coincide with the flights so you have to make a stop. The crossing lasts from an hour to a maximum of two, always depending on the ferry that is available upon your arrival. Obviously those that take less are the so-called "fast ships" which have prices clearly higher than the others.

Flight to Thessaloniki + ferry. If you want you can also get to Thessaloniki which is perhaps less comfortable but the routes are more frequent and sometimes have very low prices. From here, hydrofoils leave for Alonissos every day, usually in the morning and it takes more or less four and a half hours (always depending on sea conditions). Also in this case if your arrival is in the evening, you will have to stay one night. A second option arriving in Thessaloniki is to take a bus to the port of Volos and from there embark on a ferry to Alonissos. Certainly the least comfortable way and that "steals" more time from the holiday, the choice is yours. Journey time five and a half hours.

Flight to Athens + ferry. Also in this case the story is long but if you have time and above all if it is economically convenient it can be a valid alternative. Then arrival at Athens airport, from there move towards the port of Agios Kostantinos which can be reached with a direct bus from the airport, journey time about a couple of hours and a half.
